Rumor - Next gen consoles may allow developers to self patch games

4.7
The giant issues that stem from the current generation of consoles if that EACH time a developer wants to publish a new patch they are required to submit it through the hardware makers internal QA department. While this at first implies better quality overall what happened was up to two month wait times for game NOT published by AAA studios. A example of this being that a CoD patch would be pushed through in the length of a week while a lesser known and played game like Phantasy Star Universe was plagued with month plus wait times for the patch to reach players.

The entire process means it is quite expensive to publish patches on these platforms. The rumor going around is that on the PS4 and the next xbox developers will be able to self-publish patches due to the devices both having been built with the well established PC x86 architecture. Keep checking back for details on their rumors here at TheTechGame!

Good and bad at the same time in my opinion

Compliance Sounds like a cool idea.

Could see it getting abused in some way though... You know what these hackers are like

Da_Bomb What worrys me is like what it said in the article,"while this first implies better quality overall."

I would rather wait a month, then have a quickly made patch that could make games unstable and unusable.

This is the type of system android and im sure ios. I know half the apps in my phone have bugs every time its updated.

I think this new system will have the same issues.

That's not the type of system Android and iOS run. AFAIK, on Android they test it for 2 weeks then it's published.

I'm sure they would test out the patch before actually publishing out to the public.

Maybe that means shorter download times.

Atleast we won't have to wait a while to download updates ....I hate when that happens

sounds a lot better than downloading a bunch of patches that end up being like 2gbs

How could it hurt the next-gen consoles?? It's an improvement...
