EA exec: It is unlikely the next Xbox will play Xbox 360 games

4
An executive for Electronic Arts has recently claimed that we should not expect Xbox 360 games to run on the next-gen Xbox, nor should owners of the next Playstation expect to play PS3 games on the PS4.

Sources report that EA chief financial officer, Blake Jorgensen, said "An important thing to remember is that next-gen consoles will most likely not be backwards compatible… And if you play multiplayer on a game, you'll most likely not be able to play with someone on a different generation."

Wow this sucks, but how else are they going to make money? I wish this wasn't true...

Icy People act like this same thing hasn't happened before. Were none of you around for the 360 launch?

I honestly couldn't care less if its not backwards compatible. If I want to play an older game, I'll plug my 360 in. The same thing I used to do with the Xbox. Sooner or later people will realize that the old games are irrelevant and out of date.

I'm guessing the reasoning for this rough transition between this gen is that they are changing the way hardware works inside of the console itself. I've seen a few videos describing rumors of how the PS4 and 720 are changing their components to be more like PCs instead of unique snowflakes that are harder to program for. *cough* PS3 *cough* I will take the performance jump we are about to see in expense of the inability to play old games.

Just ask yourself, when's the last time you play an original Xbox game or PS3 game? I don't know about you, but its pushing about 5 years now.

Thank you for not being a complete tard like most of the people posting in this news thread saying "owow microsoft is dumb for this" "im not getting the new xbox now"

Because, the people that are posting that stuff are acting like the new consoles will have no good games and the games now will be better than the ones that will come out. remember from before xbox and PS2, there was nothing even close to backwards compatible it was, if you want to play the new games, get the new console, if not....stick to the one you got. I'm sure half of the people posting on here is like 14 so tbh im asking them to remember something from when they were like 2, so i doubt i will get a response that isn't full of immature blabber.

I blame COD for a gaming community to become like this.

UNSC Hm. I doubt Microsoft will do this. A very large selling point of the Next gen consoles will be the ability to run 360 games with better Graphical Animations throughout. And the fact that without a Solid lineup to be released within the first week-month of the release, sales will suffer. No one spends 450$ on a system to put it on a shelf and go "It's shiny"

btw you're an idiot. If the games on 360 were able to run on the 720 they wouldn't have any better graphical animations or any of the graphical aspects would be better. it would just be a port.....

No, that would be stupid.. A lot of people now, are starting to not enjoy newer games as much.. Especially cod for example, a lot of people prefer to go back to pay cod4, waw, mw2. Without that, it wouldn't be nearly as fun.. You can't reply on playing on the older console, because look at the old xbox, it only lasts so long before they fully quit it. :/

I agree with some of these comments, every time I hear more and more, I keep selling my xbox games and saving up for a new PC

HarmfulMushroom Sounds like each update I hear is making me want to go solely into PC gaming just that much more... Next thing were going to hear is we need to make new gamertags, at which point I'll just say **** it, sell all my xbox crap and only buy pc games from here on out.

With all the new hardware, this isn't surprising at all. So nobody sell your current consoles.
