Report: Next Xbox to "kill" pre-owned, requires always on net connection

4.6
Sources claim to have word that the next-gen Xbox will require an always-on internet connection and will block the use of pre-owned games.

The source says that another source “with first hand experience” of the console adds that games will still be buyable, which are supplied on 50GB Blu-ray discs. It is understood that disc games will use an activation code.

So, no more going to the shops and buying cheap second-hand games? There has to be more people who think this is a bad idea by Microsoft.

Disorts its actually a good business idea. people abused used games. the developers don't get that lost money back. its just gonna be more like steam if you can't afford games then don't buy them simple as the but i know everyone will buy them. plus what if all nextgen console have patent tech ? are you gonna quit gaming ? no so quit b*t*hing.

And what about all those people who cant get broadband what are they gonna do? sounds like a good business idea when there are still alot of people who live in areas that cant get broadband

I'm saying it won't happen. I don't think that they would let over 30k jobs that are based solely on the used game industry disappear. Not to mention people will be pised and it will kill the market. People say ohh, people will just new games instead. Guess what. People get at least 20-35% of that money to spend on new games by selling back old ones.

Telstra I never really bought pre-owned games anyway so doesn't really bother me

I do.it's just cheaper. I buy new games also but, Some titles that i don't buy i will get used because i don't really like dishing out 40 for a game everytime i buy one.

This is a rumour not a fact! Until Microsoft actually announce this then you shouldn't believe this!

myself like others will be pissed about the pre-owned games issue, but microsoft know that if you want the latest game (gta v for example) youll buy it on release date not wait for a second hand copy, n i defo will not be waiting lol. but if it is true like people have said other companies... cex, lovefilm, game, either make entire profit/some profit from second hand games or renting games out, how will microsofts choice for pre-owned games effect those?

I think this is a good idea, it means the developers will make more money. Also it could make it so there are more offers on games, like what happens on steam.
