Modern Warfare 2 Players Being Banned from Early Access Campaign

3.7
Some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players are being banned from the game's single-player campaign early access. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 won't release for another five days, but as Call of Duty fans wait, they can play the game's campaign through pre-order early access. Needless to say, some players have been surprised to find that Activision has banned them from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's servers, including from the early access campaign window.

Multiplayer is not part of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign early access offering for pre-orderers. The idea may be that Call of Duty fans can complete the campaign ahead of the full launch and then spend all their time playing Multiplayer with their friends. But since discs have yet to be mailed, the early access campaign is being handled entirely online. That's why a ban by Activision could, theoretically, lead to being banned from access to the single-player campaign.

Reddit user Bender99342 says this is exactly what has happened to them. They posted a thread to the ModernWarfareII subreddit titled "I was banned from single player game for some reason..." along with a screenshot as evidence. The screenshot shows them receiving a "Connection Failed" error message accessing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign early access. The error explains that the player has been "permanently banned" from playing on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's servers.

The initial response to the post understandably believes this must be a glitch. That's because any explanation for potentially being banned in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 doesn't make sense in the context of playing a single-player campaign. Others correctly point out that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's campaign servers are online and support the RICOCHET anti-cheat system, so bans can come through as if playing Multiplayer.

Bender99342 asserts that they were not cheating, of course. They explain that they were playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on their Steam Deck when the game crashed due to an error. They were banned when they returned. The only explanation they can think of is that they had the League of Legends Blitz App running in the background, which RICOCHET may have seen as a potential risk.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players could be getting banned due to RICOCHET being too aggressive. In addition, it could be due to a strange glitch. Or it could be that the player was cheating in a single-player game, and Activision doesn't allow that anymore. It's a complicated situation, but clearly, nobody wins here.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 releases on October 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Since it's a new game, they should give all players a chance

S7 Or maybe was cheating in another COD and they decided to carry the ban over when the servers went live.

Or maybe not beings my game crashed 9 hours ago, I went to sleep, woke up to finish campaign and my account has been perm banned from MW2. I can play every other COD. Try again.

They only ban you on the game you are cheating on. Not your entire battle.net account and not every call of duty you own. Trust me I am banned on CW and Vanguard but can still play the other 3 titles online on the same activation login. I think it was a conflict in Anti Cheat software or the person was trying to get ahead by using single player cheats to knock out achievements or rewards especially "Realistic". Everyone lies and says it's Activision's fault even if it isn't. Who would *publicly* admit to being guilty of cheating especially when they are upset in the moment? No one, article is subjective.

Depending, they could have made a few changes without telling anyone. Shadow bans carry? I copped a shadowban on VG and it has carried to all of the cods so far. Not sure why they have not just banned me yet since its been 5 months but whatever. It was only a suggestion because sure.. people do get false bans.. it is not that common though I can tell you that.

Lord... that would really, really suck!
Spending so much on a game to get banned after playing the first campaign mission.
IW have really gotta sort that out...
