So, fans knew to expect the PS Plus free games for May 2022 announcement today, April 27. Many fans are also likely aware that a Dealabs user known as Billbil kun has accurately leaked practically every PS Plus title since late 2021. Yesterday, the PS Plus May games did leak online, and as expected, Sony confirmed them today.
The PS Plus free games for May 2022 are FIFA 22, Curse of the Dead Gods, and Tribes of Midgard. All three will be available for PS4, and PS5 versions for FIFA 22 and Tribes of Midgard can also be claimed. PS5 owners will still be able to download Curse of the Dead Gods, of course. They will become available on May 3 and last until June 7.

It remains to be seen how well-received these games will be, but it should also be noted that many fans were pretty sour about the PS Plus free games for April 2022 lineup. This month saw Hood: Outlaws and Legends, Slay the Spire, and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated as all part of the lineup, and none struck the right chord with fans.
According to Opencritic, FIFA 22 has a Top Critic Average of 78, Tribes of Midgard has a 75 Top Critic Average, and Curse of the Dead Gods has an 81 Top Critic Average. In other words, the PS Plus free games for May 2022 have plenty of strong reviews, so it’ll likely be up to personal taste when it comes to these titles. This does not always correlate with review scores, however, as a great game doesn’t always correlate with the service. This is self-evident in April, as Slay the Spire is a pretty great game (with an Opencritic Top Average of 89), but it is a card-based game, which may not appeal to every subscriber.
PS Plus subscribers have plenty on the horizon to look forward to, as well. The PS Plus tier system is set to release in June, offering a massive library consisting of PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 games at the highest tier. A recent report also indicated that any new game priced at $34 or higher would also be required to offer two-hour long demos on the PlayStation network. This, if accurate, will likely resonate with many gamers, as they’ll be able to try games before they buy them, but developers may not be as happy as this is extra work on top of the already strenuous process of game development.
PS Plus subscribers get a handful of free games every month.
