PLAYSTATION 3 logo replaced due to 'visibility' issues

4.7

Have you ever watched a trailer for a multiplatform game, where you find yourself struggling to find the Playstation 3 logo at the end? That’s totally the reason Sony are rebranding the Playstation with the PS3 Slim. Gone is the Spider-Man font and full title “PLAYSTATION 3″. Heck, it’s all about just the “PS3″ these days.

Kaz Hirai explained the change as a “reset” in the Times Online (via Joystiq), stating Sony are returning to their “roots”.

“When you have PlayStation 3 spelt out, the aspect ratio was such that if you wanted it on a billboard it became tiny. It didn’t work in terms of visibility,” Kaz admitted.

So it’s not only a rebirth for the system, but there are practical reasons behind the change aswell. Joystiq captured the above image from an old Call Of Duty 4 trailer. We’re sure you can imagine the minimal, but worthwhile, impact the change will have.

This is interesting move. I don't see why they would want to go back to there roots when they are trying to make something new and exciting. The logo thing is a bit different and we will see how this plays out.
