Microsoft Refuses To Talk About Reset Glitch Hack At CES 2012

4.6
Are you wondering what Microsoft thinks overall about the RGH and hardware modifications overall? So were we! So we made sure to run into a Microsoft representative at CES 2012! It took us a long time to track one down, but once we did we jumped right into the hardware conversation!

On our second day at CES 2012, I decided it may be a good idea to approach a Microsoft Representative and see if I could get some answers about the Reset Glitch Hack and what precautions they are planning on taking with it. Considering it is a hardware issue and not software, in theory, the Reset Glitch Hack can not be patched.

It took a little while to actually catch up with a rep and talk to him, as there were 140,000 people at this thing, and a majority of them were crowding the consoles to see the new games. But once I did, it was a very quick conversation.

I went up to the man and said, “Hello, My name is Sean and I am from TheTechGame.com, I was wondering if you could answer some questions I had based around the 360’s past hardware revisions.” He simply said yes, I felt as if he wanted to say no, however he said yes. I then went on to saying “With the Corona motherboard only just releasing, and already around 30-50 million consoles out there that are exploitable for the reset glitch hack, what precautions is Microsoft taking to ensure that the Online experience is not affected in any way. In theory if they are dual booting dev and retail nands and allowing the consoles to run homebrew eventually they will bypass live challenges and could possibly get onto the Live Network.”

I felt as if it was a pretty open minded question that anyone could find out about simply by visiting the internet. Once the question was asked, his facial expression changed from what was a happy mood, to a look that was not very pleasant. It actually looked as if he was disgusted. He then replied with the depressing, but expected statement I was honestly awaiting, “Microsoft is not currently able to make a public statement regarding that specific issue with the Xbox 360 hardware.”

I then thanked the man and walked away. One has to wonder though, while broken down into stats, what is going through Microsoft’s heads? I am currently in Las Vegas airport with no Internet, so I can not pull stats from a reliable source, nor do I know them off the top of my head, but this is what I do know.

Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 in 2005, since then they have been dominating the marketplace, literally dominating. They have several revisions, all of which are exploitable, excluding the Xenon and Corona Motherboards, which just recently launched on a very select amount of Gears Of War 3 Slims and all of the Modern Warfare 3 Slims. The amount of consoles, (Not exact numbers, pulling it off my head in a very broad term), that are exploitable is around 30-50 million.

The exploitable consoles include the following:
  • Zephyr
  • Falcon
  • Jasper
  • Trinity

With 4/6 revisions exploitable, they have to be thinking of some idea to work this out. Microsoft is not a company lacking intelligence, and they often handle things like this extremely well. I guess all we can do is wait and see what’s next for the Xbox 360!
