Phil Spencer has played an integral role in the development, production, and advertising of the Xbox Series X/S. Having served as a Microsoft employee since 1988, Spencer has been a part of its gaming division for well over a decade. Though, it appears that he enjoys using its consoles just as much as he does developing them.
On the most recent episode of the Major Nelson podcast, Spencer mentioned that during work meetings he actually uses his Xbox Series S. He talks about how he has the console hooked up to his second HDMI port, and he will constantly swap back and forth between the Microsoft Teams call and his play session on the Series S. He did not mention what games he plays during these work meetings, but it's still fascinating to hear.
Spencer told the interviewer not to tell Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella that he was doing this, but considering they both are likely working from home, there's no way to really prove it. However, it may just be easier for Spencer to have a second monitor to plug the Series S into, that way he could play and work simultaneously without having to swap between HDMIs.
While the release of the Xbox Series X/S was an important milestone, there's still a lot of work that needs to be done. Given the current state of the world, the demand for next-gen gaming tech has never been higher. In the same podcast, Phil Spencer also said new consoles are constantly being built to try and keep up with the high consumer demand.
In any case, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the consoles. With the Xbox Series X/S breaking sales records in the UK and other countries, these consoles have already garnered a sizeable amount of success. Not to mention the upcoming release of exclusives like The Medium and Halo Infinite. One thing has been made clear since the console's launch: this is only the beginning.
The Xbox Series X/S is available now.
