Xbox One New Update Officially Removes Mixer

3.7
Microsoft announced a few weeks back that it would be putting its streaming platform, Mixer, to bed in July. In its place, a new partnership with Facebook Gaming coming about starting on July 22.

As of today, the realization that Mixer is indeed leaving this mortal coil has come about once again, as Microsoft pushed out a new update for Xbox One that is removing the streaming service from the console entirely. The latest patch for the system, which is available to download right now, not only removes Mixer integration from Xbox One platforms, but also makes the Events application a permanent addition. Previously, Events was only available in a beta iteration.

Again, none of this is surprising whatsoever given that Microsoft announced that this would all be happening back in June, but it is a bit bizarre to see the Xbox One dashboard without Mixer involved. The console has been intrinsically tied to the streaming platform since Microsoft acquired it back in 2017 and has since seen many streamlined features that integrated the service to the core Xbox One experience over the years. While Mixer never gained the notoriety or usage rates that Microsoft clearly hoped it would, the way in which it was utilized natively within the Xbox One I personally always found to be pretty convenient.

With Mixer now bowing out from the streaming space, the domain is now largely dominated by Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming. As for Ninja, Mixer’s most popular streamer who Microsoft signed an exclusivity deal with back in 2019, it looks as though he’ll be taking his talents to YouTube in the future.

I mean, it was inevitable it was going to be removed via the next update.
