Spielberg predicts death of home consoles, rise of 3D gaming
Hollywood veteran Steven Spielberg expects to see the traditional home console die out, whilst virtual reality and 3D video games will make an emphatic comeback.
In an exclusive interview with The Guardian, Spielberg boldly stated that he forecasts the conventional video game systems to go "the way of the Dodo bird," as well as declaring his preference for PC gaming.
"Now we're all playing at home and someday we'll be playing directly on our TV sets, bypassing all of the platforms," he said. "In the short term I would love to start seeing 3D games developed where with a good pair of glasses we get a real three-dimensional experience in front of an appropriate monitor that is designed just for 3D."
The director of Schindler's List and Jurassic Park has recently dabbled in video game production, with his Wii puzzle game Boom Blox being a surprise success both commercially and critically.
Spielberg's vision may seem like a lifetime away, but following the recent OnLive announcement it may become a reality sooner than we think.

3D gaming would be a HUGE step into the new gaming world. Personally i would love to have that come. I love how video games are right now but making it 3D and more realistic would be one of the greatest inventions ever, besides the spork.
