Footage Shows Nintendo Switch Lite Might Have Joy-Con Drift Issues

4.5
A recent video has emerged which shows a Nintendo Switch Lite experiencing Joy-Con drift issues, although the issue doesn't appear to be consistent.

You may recall various reports this year of people experiencing drifting issues with the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers. Class-action lawsuits were discussed surrounding the issue, Nintendo provided a statement, and apparently the fix would be free. In fact, Logan wrote up a guide on how to get your Joy-Con’s fixed by Nintendo.

Of course, that was all in reference to the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con’s that can be detached from the console itself. Additional controllers can be purchased to act as a replacement while you’re getting your others fixed for example. However, with the launch of the Nintendo Switch Lite, the controllers are not portable and are fixed to the console, and well, in a recent video it seems that the drifting issue is still prominent.

In a video posted on September 22 by YouTube user Alexis Javier, the video shows The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running on a Nintendo Switch Lite. The camera rotates around Link horizontally without the right thumbstick being touched. Javier does, of course, touch the thumbstick, repositioning the camera and once left untouched the drifting can be seen continuing.

Javier then uploaded another video earlier today which also answers some questions they’ve obviously received in light of the above video gaining views.

The below video shows the drifting issue continuing in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Javier shows that they are not holding any additional Joy-Con’s and that there is no one else in the room, denying that off-screen tactics are taking place to mimic the issue.

We also see Javier recalibrating the right thumbstick, with some noticeable drift showing in the calibration wheel. After calibration, it appears to fix the issue but then returns shortly after twiddling the stick for a while.

Of course, Javier does clarify that the issue seems to “come and go”, claiming that there were no drift issues in the Dragon Quest XI demo. They also state that they’re unsure if it’s just an issue with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and will monitor the issue over the coming days.

This does become more concerning as a consumer as if there are prominent drifting issues with the Nintendo Switch Lite, then the entire system would need to be returned in order for the issue to be fixed. So far, I’ve seen no other reports online claiming to have Joy-Con drifting issues with the console, but it is still early days as the Nintendo Switch Lite released on September 20, 2019. Mario350 just like the xbox one controller just like the ps4 controller just like the pc controllers just like 3rd party controllers just like xbox 360 controllers ect all controllers i got with my launch consoles all had joystick drifting(mind you brand new day one consoles) minus the xbox one s refurbished which i have no issues with at all unlike americans, but i had joystick drift with 6 different controllers after using them for about a week.

the issue isnt just joycons like most people believe, yet people arent complaining that their joysticks arent drifting to microsoft/sony, also i had my original switch 2017 model since oct 27th 2017 and have yet to face the drifting issue why because im not an idiot who smashing in the sticks well playing games, plus the joycons analog sticks arent even analog at all its like the ps vitas joysticks, but yeah the reason for the drifting its because people push really hard on the sticks that arent even analog so of course the course between the solid real analog like xbox/ps4/pc controllers vs ps vita mushy joysticks joycon that arent meant to be clicked hard of course the joycons will be damaged faster then the main line controllers, plus the switch pro controller and game cube controllers also have drifting as well but those as bad as the joycons

Yh but a new xbox one or ps4 controller is actually cheaper than the switch controllers and the switch controllers are prone to drifting. Im not sure about the switch lite but when i called nintendo about my normal joycon drift they told me they would have to charge as its been over a year even tho everyone has the issue. Its pathetic really from a household name to pay £65 for something that can break just by playing super smash bros brawl or mortal kombat in a few weeks

The reason why it might not be replicated in other games is 'Stick Deadzone'. The deadzone for breath of the wild is likely to be less than that of Dragon Quest XI. Having the ability to change this manually would aid in resolving this but still not fully fix it.

One reason why not to get the Switch Lite.
