Call of Duty Elite is Free to All, Features Explained

4.5
A number of stories have talked about a new subscription-based service, named Call of Duty Elite, which will be launched alongside Modern Warfare 3 during the fall, offering extra content for fans of the series who are willing to pay, but publisher Activision Blizzard says that those who love the multiplayer component of the series should not be worried about paying for it.

Robert Bowling, who is a community manager working at Activision Blizzard and one of the main sources of information about the Call of Duty series, has Twitted about the recently revealed subscription based service, saying that the multiplayer will be “free, for all players, some paid aspects TBD. Absolutely NO fee to play #MW3 multiplayer.”

Bowling has not offered any information on how the interaction between the Elite paid content and the free multiplayer of the games will play out.

Josh Olin, who is the community manager working at developer Treyarch, has also posted on Twitter saying, “Just a reminder, like we've said before, Call of Duty MP is free to play. Stay tuned for some exciting news tomorrow!”

It seems that the cost for Elite will be under 7 dollars for one month and that those who join up can expect to get a fuller multiplayer experience, specifically designed for those who have been following the series for a long time and are looking for something extra.

For a long time, rumors have existed about a project under development at Activision Blizzard which sought to use the popularity of the Call of Duty brand to power a whole new gaming experience that is based around subscription.

It seems that for the moment Activision has only chosen to go half way there with Elite, allowing the basic multiplayer formula to be free for those who pick up Modern Warfare 3 and delivering something extra for those who are willing to pay monthly.

TTG-Andy-x Call of duty Elite is not free. The multiplayer is free but Call of Duty Elite is an add on that requires a month subscription. Robert bowling confirmed it would cost when someone asked him on twitter, how much it would cost and he said we dont know how much it will cost ATM.

Elite does NOT require a monthly subscription, there is a premium section of Elite yes but the majority of the features they have advertised is Free for everyone

Wow, wasn't expecting it to be free, but hey I'm not complaining. Lets just hope they dont change their mind when they decide if they think people find it worth paying for or not.
