Rare NES Game Stadium Events Sells For A Whopping $42,000

Some people will pay anything to have the ultimate Nintendo Entertainment System collection. We’ve seen copies of games like Chip n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers 2, Bonk’s Adventure and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters sell for astronomical rates – but none of them, it seems, holds a candle to Family Fun Fitness: Stadium Events.

The game, which was made by Bandai several years ago to work with the Nintendo Power Pad, has become the rarest NES game out there over the past few years, and a recent sale off of eBay indicates just how popular it has become – someone just paid a king’s ransom for a sealed copy of a game. We’re talking $42,000. Yes, $42,000.

Of course, it’s a sealed copy, which is even more of a rarity these days, so we understand why some folks would be so avid going after it. But it’s crazy that they’d pay something that’s the equivalent of a new car price for it.

Originally, the game was listed on eBay, and someone managed to bid around $41,977 for it. However, surprise, the final bidder ended up not paying for the cartridge. But, thankfully, another person, who made a connection with the auction, offered to pay the $42K price for the cartridge, and the sale was made.

We don’t know the identities of either the buyer or the seller, but this is easily one of the biggest amounts that someone has paid for a piece of classic gaming, outside of, say, buying a rare pinball or arcade machine, like the original Pong or something like that. Even then, we’ve seen the price circle somewhere around $20,000. $41,000 is a huge leap over that, and it’s just for a single, new NES game. Not to mention the fact that the only way you can really play it is if you have the PowerPad and a pair of nimble legs.

$42,000 is a crazy amount! That could've been a nice car, but obviously the buyer was rich or at least has money so this probably had little to no impact on him.

42,000 just for a game? That's insane I would never paid for it even if I was rich.

42,000 just for a game. I'd rather buy 5,660 gifts of gold.
