According to beta design lead Rob Engeln, the beta build that players are currently playing “is now months old” and changes have already been made to areas that players have had concerns about, such as ammo scarcity.
Engeln explained that ammo drop rates have been returned to their original values and changes have also been made to grenades, boss health, and weapon damage.
“The PVE game tuning has changed pretty significantly since the Beta build was deployed. The nature of a Beta of this scale requires that it’s based off a build of the game that is now months old,” he said. “So, in many cases, your feedback is helping us validate changes that were previously made based on internal feedback and playtesting.
“For example, we too felt that ammo (especially power ammo) was too scarce in PvE. In addition to retuning the drop rates, we built a system that guarantees power ammo drops for you and your Fireteam from certain enemies, giving power weapons a more reliable and predictable role in your arsenal. Other areas where we’ve made significant tuning changes include grenade effectiveness in PvE, Boss vitality, and weapon damage against non-player combatants.”
The Destiny 2 beta is available right now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners who have pre-ordered the game, and later today it will be opened up to everyone. The beta includes the game’s opening campaign mission, the Inverted Spire Strike, two PvP modes, and the new subclasses for Hunter, Titan, and Warlock.
Destiny 2 is scheduled to arrive on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on September 6th, with a PC release following on October 24th.
