Nintendo has sold 1.5m NES Classics

We now have an idea of how well Nintendo’s much sought-after NES Classic Mini has performed.

According to a tweet by Wall Street Journal tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki (below) – who was at a Nintendo corporate strategy meeting – the company has sold 1.5m units globally, with Nintendo upping production.

This is presumably a reference to the fact that the hardware was notoriously hard for consumers to get their hands on, with scalpers selling the £50 machine on third party sites for up to £200. Ebay even went as far as to encourage sellers to hike prices for the tech.

NES Classic Mini sold 263,000 units in its first four days on sale in Japan. Meanwhile, the machine shifted 20,000 copies on Ebay in the US during the Black Friday weekend.

Announced in July 2016, the NES Classic Mini is a replica of Nintendo's debut home console, and came with 30 installed with 30 titles from the machine.

It launched in November.
