GTA 5 has generated $700 million in Revenue Over the Past Year

Grand Theft Auto is a massive success in every sense of the word. Only the idiotic or uninformed would think otherwise but I’m not sure anyone truly realized how much of a money making behemoth the popular title has been for developer, Rockstar. Releasing just over three years ago, GTA 5 was an instant hit and went on to garner many awards and accolades for it’s amazing open world design and “crim-sim” gameplay.

Three years is a long time in this industry and there has been zero chatter from Rockstar about any sort of followup, perhaps GTA 6 or something similar. Likewise, information on much-requested single player DLC has been nonexistent, much to the continued chagrin of fans hoping for a few high quality expansions like we saw with GTA 4.

Well, perhaps we now have a possible reason as to why Rockstar are so reluctant to announce the next big chapter in the Grand Theft Auto saga. GTA 5, or specifically, GTA Online is just making too much money! According to well known industry analyst, Daniel Ahmed, the game and it’s associated properties took in $700 million over the last twelve months, apparently even more than the previous year. A staggering amount by anyone’s standards, it becomes even more impressive when you consider there was no physical re-release of the title over that period so the majority is being generated by the continued success of GTA Online.

Even three years on, there’s obviously still a big pool of players logging in for some fun times in the online criminal playground that Rockstar have crafted. While I’m sure many fans (me included) would love to see some news on GTA 6 or an expansion for the existing game, Rockstar seems to be in no hurry to move on. And with revenue like that from a three year old game, you can’t really blame them, can you?

Jesus, that's a lot of $$$

It's understandable though, with all the micro-transaction capability and how heavily influenced the game is by the industry

I am not surprised at all the game is so good, It's the only game I seem to play I haven't really played many games since it came out, The only game I intend on playing as much as GTA is the Remastered CoD4.

Games fun even after 3 years, you just have to know how to have fun. I've been logging on GTA online everyday for maybe the past 2 months.
Haven't been playing much Halo since 343i completely lacks common sense.

I'm not surprised one bit, they done a good damn job keeping the servers up and running. I love the game and so does everybody else.

This is very good. Keep adding in content and keep those shark cards into play and with new gamers coming in all the time, this is indeed a very good look for them.
