i was renting before, and in April of 2022, i bought my first home... and it is sooooo nice being able to do what i like to the place and so on.. Renting is just a trap pretty much.. Cause with buying a house, you essentially get most of if not more of that money back when you sell... as renting, you dont ever see a dime of it ever again lol

Both have their pros and cons. Personally I lucked out my sister bought a 3 family and moved my family in. I still pay rent of course but its nice knowing my sister is my landlord and my rent is helping her pay mortgage.

Renting sucks though because you might have to deal with bad neighbors or a slum lord or both.

Owning sucks because of water bill, property tax, garbage etc.

I think owning is the better option.

I own my house and i love it. But then again all of the repairs are on you as well. No landlord to tenant issues but then on that note, own allows you to be your own boss.

This is what I was about to say. I'd still rather own than rent but this year has beaten me down with repairs/expenses

agreed. I had a broken water pimp and have to replace a door and buy a new washer and dryer. Not happy bout it. Hopefully nothing goes wrong till I am done building my garage.

On a purely selfish level I'd love to rent more and here's why,

If I owned a house sure, I'd have something to give my next generation to help "bump" them aswell as the comfort of knowing it's all mine. However,if you're talking the amount you'd save on expenses/bills by renting seems more relaxing to me. I know I won't own it but I can't still do whether I'd do in my own home (maybe not renovations - but the rest yes) it consider it the smartest option towards saving for a retirement home, where my retirement pay could pay too.

That way, I'd have best of both worlds and the freedom to move anywhere if I didn't like my neighbours, environment and overall the place in general.
