Now, I know what you're thinking. Why would you go and buy a 2021 F-150 when you already have a 2021 F-150?

Well, I'll explain.

My previous truck was a 2021 F-150 XLT Sport with every option imaginable, 6 foot bed, 7.2 KW generator, PowerBoost Hybrid. Well, I made the move from Columbus, OH to Anchorage, AK and the hybrid wasn't really as big of a fan of the climate as I was. I drove it all the way up here with all of my belongings packed floor to ceiling and bed full through the US, Canada, and finally to Alaska. Shown below:

While I loved my XLT, I knew I had put too many miles for my liking on her, so I needed to upgrade soon. What could that be? I had finally got it to where I liked it, with the lift, tires, and blacked out badging all finished, where could I go from here?

Well.. I thought, maybe I pay cash for an old F-250 diesel and try out the PowerStroke life. I found a super clean 1995 F-250 Long bed with 120,000 on it, and went to check it out.

Everything was perfect on this truck. Nice oversized camper top, not a single spot of rust, and plenty of life left out of this time capsule, till I found out the seller wanted $18,000.00 and would not budge a penny. I offered 12,000 for it, and he politely declined and that was that. I could not see the justification in paying what the truck was MSRP BRAND NEW 25 years and 120k miles later. So I chose to end it at that. I don't know if some of you are like me, but when I get into the vehicle buying mood, it almost becomes an itch, I manifest driving a new vehicle and at a certain point, if something doesn't work out and I get all excited about it, it makes me lay awake at night wondering if I offered this or that would he have taken it and I would have gotten the truck I wanted? Either way, I was disappointed that it didn't work out, regardless of the reason.

After I get home that very same evening, bummed out that I didn't get that truck, I start scrolling marketplace to see what else I could find. Then.. a 2021 F-150 King Ranch pops up. In Alaska, these trucks are VERY rare to come by, as usually once somebody buys one of these, they seldomly let go of them.

I had dreamt of the King Ranch since I was in my teens, I have always loved the styling, presence and the luxury of the King Ranch trim.

I thought to myself, "It's just a scam, there's no way this truck could be for sale and it be exactly what I would build on Ford.com over and over for fun." Well, I called the number attached to the post. Sure enough, it was for sale and they had 3 weeks to sell their things before they moved out of state for work. I immediately lit up and called the bank and asked, "What do I need to do to get this thing?!" We went through a stressful credit application, and a few agonizing hours later, I was pre-approved to go get the truck of my dreams. I call the owner back and set an appointment with them to meet and take a look at it before we finalize everything.

A few days later, we meet up at the bank to sign all of the paperwork and an hour or so later, I finally had gotten the truck I've always wanted. "Screw that '95, I said, I'm ballin out in a King Ranch!!"

With that being said, I still had my other truck to find something to do with.

Here's where the crazy part comes into play..

So, I had leased this XLT 2.5 years ago for 36 months and 12,000 miles per year. At this point in time, I had racked up 62,000 miles. So needless to say, simply turning the lease in was not an option lol. I went all around Anchorage getting buy bids for my XLT, and came back with $40,000 as my highest offer.

I had owed about $45,000 left on it, so I was in a negative equity position. As a reminder, I now have 2 trucks, and do not want to pay 2 payments. So, I was in a bit of a rush to sell this thing. I accept the $40,000 offer on my XLT, and process the paperwork. I had to pay about $5000 out of pocket to sell my truck, but there's a silver lining to this. When I bought the King Ranch, the owner at the time had told me that they purchased an Extended Warranty through the dealership that they bought it from, and that they were transferring this warranty over to me as part of the sale. I found out after I bought the truck that this warranty that they bought had a value of $6000. Well, I see an opportunity here! I cancel the warranty after it transferred to me, and I got a refund of $5000. This paid my negative equity! All is good.

Well, so I thought...

Ford Credit (who I leased the XLT through) decided to be stingy and tell me that in order to payoff my XLT, I would have to either purchase it through a Ford dealership first, then I can sell it, or I can directly sell it to a Ford dealership (who would've given me less money than the previous offer). Since I was in a negative equity position even in the higher offer, selling it to the Ford dealer wasn't going to work. That would mean technically having to open 2 auto loans at the same time (my KR and my XLT) and then instantly selling and paying off my XLT. I thought, would the credit union let me do this? Well, turns out that they were super awesome over there and let me do exactly that. They sent a check to Ford Credit to pay off the XLT and open a loan and title it in my name for the payoff amount, so that I could turn around and sell it and pay them off. Perfect!

Well, again, so I thought...

We get through that process, and for the next week or so I have 2 loans for 2 trucks. Now, I need to actually sell the XLT and pay off the credit union. So, I head down to the dealer that offered me the higher offer, and sell it to them. They send the credit union the check to pay it off, as well as the money I had to put out of pocket to cover the negative equity difference, and then it would all be good.

Well, again again, so I thought...

I got a call from Ford Credit within the next few days telling me that they are returning the check because it came from a credit union, and not from a Ford dealership. Really??? They would not take a payoff check for the full amount because it wasn't coming specifically from a Ford dealership?? Who CARES? It is a cashable check to pay off the loan. What the hell Ford Credit? So, I finally pull my bootstraps up and go to the local Ford dealer to ask for help. The credit union cancelled the check to Ford Credit, and sent another for the same amount to the Ford dealer, so the Ford dealer could send their check for the same amount to Ford Credit to payoff the XLT loan, finally.

Needless to say, Cab East LLC, YOU SUCK! I will not be leasing another Ford through them again, and honestly probably not leasing again, because according to the Ford dealer that helped me through this, they told me that this is a fairly common process that they go through with lease buyouts because Ford wants to keep the inventory limited to circulating only through Ford dealerships... sneaky as hell Ford. Smart, but sneaky and stupid.

All in all, I got the XLT paid off and sold, got way more than I thought I was going to given the mileage, and got the truck of my dreams at 24 years old. Super blessed.

Here's a pick of the new one!

Please feel free to share your nightmare car buying/selling experiences in the comments! I love hearing your wild stories lol.

Thanks for reading my rant/story and let me know if I should lift this one! Tire recommendations also accepted because these tires suck!!
