I'm considering going for an electric car, however, the closest charging point is 12 miles away. The quote for me to get one installed around my home is £5K. Everyone I've asked so far have said no. I'd love to hear some thoughts from someone who's non biased. I'm stuck at budgeting as technically I'd get it for "free". However, I'm looking at getting a Peugeot 208.

How would you get it for free?

Not sure how the power grid is where you are but in the US we are not ready for electric vehicles. Take California's rolling black outs for example.

For me even if I didn't have to worry about when I could charge my car it's still a no. I do too many spontaneous road trips and even just my daily commute is close to 100 miles. If my car didn't charge I might miss a day of work, taking my road trips would take WAY longer, and I am one that works on my own vehicles, electric vehicles are just plain hard to work on though hopefully they'll get easier in the future.

As far as installing a charger goes, it's not a bad idea yet. Currently in the US homes with electric car chargers are selling faster / for more money in areas where electric cars are popular. If it's the same in your area and you can afford the cost, it's not a bad idea as when you go to sell you will see a decent return on your investment.

It's a long story, I basically won't own the car, more "finance" under a company that helps with the disabled.

Tbh I don't think anywhere atm is very supportive towards them, they sort of started to try get it all together and gave up. Pretty sure they weren't profiting much so it became a "throw away project" until something better comes along. That is also true, spontaneous road trips are one of my favourite things to do however, I don't have much mileage as most of the places i visits sre within 50 miles. I do occasionally go over that to visit my dad. Only problem with the idea of investing into getting a charge point is investments can always go sour

Most of that would have to be a loan

I'd honestly love to take out a loan to go travel but then I'd have no way of paying it back

Gotta be eco friendly every now and then. Everyone loves a sport car but not everyone will get the chance to use one if I add to the list of high emissions

I would feel like an absolute **** though
