Hi there, a while back I asked for upgrade/new build advice. As the B550M mobos are out now I put together a projected upgrade and would like feedback as to if you guys reckon its a good build or not.
Main use is gaming, CoD, CSGO, Rocket League, Among Us. Basically a wide range! I can play all these games fine as of now, even managed to run the new CoD beta above 70fps ironically even though my CPU does not meet minimum requirements. I would like a move into the newer faster hardware essentially with a nice performance boost.

Current PC specs:

CPU - i5 4460 3.2ghz
CPU COOLER - Cryorig M9A
MOBO - MSI H97M G43
GPU - Radeon Powercolour Red Devil RX580 8GB
RAM - 4x4GB HyperX Fury 1600MHZ
PSU - TSXFX ProSeries 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX
STORAGE - 1x 120GB TCSunbow SSD
1x Samsung 596GB HD642JJ (Super old came out of my first ever desktop still going yet!)
OS - Windows 10 Pro
CASE - iONZ KZ02 Mid tower (Ebay special to upgrade from my tiny Fractal Mini tower case actually really decent for the price came with 3 rgb fans can't complain!)
Monitor - BENQ Zowie 144hz 24' XL2411P

Proposed new parts - New parts

Combined pc build - Overall build

CPU upgrade is the main goal here and from what I have compared and researched seems the most bang for buck upgrade CPU wise in terms of performance but this would also give me a decent platform to upgrade in the future. I added the case I would eventually want in the overall build, I would also down the line like to get a modular or semi modular PSU for cable management reasons along with a better CPU cooler (Am I right in saying the ryzen CPUs come with a decent stock cooler?) but the stock one will do for now. Then afterwards a 1TB SSD would be a big boost to replace my dated HDD, could easy just leave it in there anyway have plenty of sata cables. But yeah any advice would be good. Cheers.

EDIT: Oh and forgot to say for the 3 parts needed for the upgrade kind of in the 300-350GBP region is what I had in mind!

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3300X 3.8 GHz Quad-Core Processor (£114.11 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Asus PRIME B550-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard (£137.96 @ More Computers)
Memory: Team T-FORCE DARK Za 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (£103.58 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £355.65

Alternatively, you could grab a nice B450 motherboard and 16GB RAM which would let you up the R3 3300X to an R5 3600;
PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor (£179.00 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard (£96.98 @ Aria PC)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory (£68.39 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £344.37

If you want a cheaper kit of 16GB RAM, I would not buy that Corsair Vengeance kit. This is what I'd get instead;

A little cheaper, and 3200MHz @ CL16 will be better than 3600MHz @ CL20.

I noticed you recommended ATX Mobos, is there any benefit to having ATX over mATX? I kind of planned on just running with mATX as they are cheaper and have plenty slots for what I need, plus ease of cable management. Is there anything particularly wrong with the one I picked?

I mean, not really. The form factor itself isn't necessarily a benefit or a downside, but if you can afford a decent ATX motherboard, then you might as well get one since you have an ATX case.

The mATX mobo in your parts list is more expensive than both of the ATX mobo's I suggested.

No, it's a fine motherboard. The Asus Prime B550-Plus is just a better motherboard for the same price. Asus also have a better BIOS than MSI IMO.

I haven't compared the B450 Tomahawk vs the B550M Mortar specifically. I imagine they're pretty similar in terms of quality/performance though, so I'd just save the 40 quid and grab the B450 Tomhawk in that case.
