Update to the situation.

The navigator of the Russian Su-24 shot down by a Turkish fighter jet on Tuesday insists that his plane did not cross into Turkeys airspace, and says he was given no visual or radio warning before being fired at.

"In actual fact, there were no warnings at all. Neither through the radio, nor visually, so we did not at any point adjust our course. You need to understand the difference in speed between a tactical bomber like a Su-24, and that of the F16. If they wanted to warn us, they could have sat on our wing," said Murakhtin, who is currently recuperating at Russias airbase in Latakia, northern Syria.

In all honesty, this didn't surprise me, at all. Multiple people called me when this happened on Tuesday and when I was first told, and then later read the articles posted around, in my mind, it sounded like it was planned.

Don't really know if this can count as an update, but it is becoming rather viral, which deserves a read seeing how a lot of people, even those outside Russia are reacting.

Voice only warnings are horse shit. The Turks should've followed protocol. Verbal warnings, Fighter escor and warning shots. Shooting it down immediately is reckless as hell.

" Putins Promised Consequences For Turkish Hypocrisy
Theres mounting evidence that Turkeys actions were completely uncalled for. Greece has released data revealing that they could have shot down Turkish jets over 2,000 times, for 2,244 violations of Greek airspace in 2014 alone (according to University of Thessaly statistics based on the Greek militarys count)!

Athens agrees with the Russian presidents assessment on Ankaras hostile actions, which are contrary to the goals of the anti-ISIS coalition, The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement to RIA Novosti.

Greece, according to its Foreign Ministry, especially comprehends provocative moves by Turkey given regular multiple violations of Greek air space by Ankara lasting for years.

Even Turkish officials believe that the Russian jet had only spent 17 seconds in its airspace, hardly a reason to shoot it down. It should have known better.

In fact, Turkey does know better:

In 2012, Turkey lost an F-3 Phantom warplane to a Syrian attack after it strayed into Syrian territory.

A short-term border violation can never be a pretext for an attack, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was then-Turkish prime minister. HIS OWN WORDS!

If Greece chose to use Turkeys own actions as precedence though

For the second time (the first being in Ukraine) Russia has had to release its own radar data. For the second time, nobody seems to be able to agree on the account of events. Data from Hmeimim airbase shows that their jet did not even cross into Turkish airspace:

Russia is not taking this provocation lying down though; Putin had promised consequences, and by golly he will get them.

While France, America and NATO have called for calm (ironic considering the fact that their implicit defense pact with Turkey has allowed it to move so rashly ) Russia has decided to calmly send the Moskva, a Slavia class cruiser, to the coast of Latakia.

This is the cruisers specifications:

We warn that every target posing a potential threat will be destroyed, lieutenant general Sergey Rudskoy said during the briefing.

All military contacts with Turkey will be suspended, he added.

Any Turkish jet found to be violating Syrian airspace could be viewed potential threats or should I say, targets. Targets which could be brought down within 17 seconds, and with as much warning as had been provided to Russias pilots.

As it stands, these measures are more defensive than offensive in nature, a promise that Turkey will be measured by the same standards it had used against Russia- Putin is trying his hardest not to give NATO any reason to attack.

As the US and France warships arrive in the vicinity though, things may not remain calm for long."

A Russian plane crossed into Israel's airspace today, and Israel didn't shoot it down.

"There was a slight intrusion a mile (1.6 kilometers) deep by a Russian plane from Syria into our airspace, but it was immediately resolved and the Russian plane returned towards Syria," Yaalon told Army Radio.

"Russian planes do not intend to attack us, which is why we must not automatically react and shoot them down when an error occurs," Yaalon also said.
