I prefer melee weapons, so I would take a longsword or something along those lines.

What I would do is take the bolt that is in the middle of the garden shears, so both of the blades are separated, they are easy to get and they would do the job until i got something better.
Other Items:- golf clubs, knifes, air rifles ect.
