Believe it or not, eSports is rising as a term that will be known everywhere.

Its already happening, back in August this LoL pro was granted a U.S. visa as a pro athlete.

Even happened again in December, when a South Korean Starcraft pro was also granted a US visa as an athlete.

There is already going to be a strictly eSports arena built in LA.
Being used for mainly LoL and Dota when it is built.
I cant find the link to it at this moment.

And with this going on right now, I believe that this counts as entertainment.

But at this moment eSports is fairly small, and will only continue to grow.

You could say the same about snooker, pool or even darts they throw and hit stuff not physical exertion.

I disagree with this. I can see how eSports aren't exactly "physical", but it is definitely a sport. I don't know if you could go as far as saying that eSport players are "athletes", but they are professionals that compete in a professional sport, that's a fact.

Whether you like it or not. eSports in here to stay. And the term/sport is only getting bigger.

Exactly...
I play games on my Xbox and Laptop, but in no way do I think of it as a sport.
If it is the case, then sitting watching T.V is a sport. It involves 'physical exertion' to press the buttons on the remote. And once every hour or so, the person has to get up and go the toilet or get a drink/snack! The effort must be amazing!

"an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."

Is the same thing as what the players are doing. They're using their fingers, and minds to play the game competitively. Skill is involved within both teams. People are entertained by it. It is hard to explain, but it is a actual sport now.

Minds and skill are both mental exertion, not physical.

Basically what I have seen so far is that it should be called a game rather than a sport... Thats basically how I see it.

Completely agree. I really don't think a game should be dubbed an "esport" no matter how competitive it is, because...well it's not a sport. You're not physically active.

I suppose plenty of people will disagree though.

Sorry, but I have to disagree as some others have mentioned in this post it's getting more and more common. Its not just gamers saying it companies are saying it too. COD, LoL, Smite Dota..
