Human blood is always red. The oxygenation theory is incorrect, but not for everything. Certain animals' blood actually does change color when it comes in contact with oxygen, just not humans' blood.

I seriously doubt that.
It was taught in school for a while that blood that hasn't come into contact with oxygen is blue.
I remember some teachers explaining that as well, that it reacts with oxygen causing it to turn red but it being blue in your system

blood that hasn't come in contact with oxygen is a deep deep red color that appears dark purple. once it hits oxygen it turns red.

your veins are blue because of the light entering your skin.

The reason people think it is blue is because thats what they were taught in school. I was taught that in school. But found out pretty early it was never blue since my sister is a Biology teacher.

So just because you passed science with an A means you are correct?

Let me go direct my buddy Ortho to this thread. He's in Medical School.

You have 2 different types of blood vessels, one is red and carries oxygenated blood, one is reddish purple and carries oxygenated blood.

Actually blood is a blueish colour when it has not come in contact with oxygen.

When you get a cut the blood will be red as well as the blood in your arteries and heart because they have been oxygenated.

Yeah... this post is getting pretty dumb.
Let's all look at the Ph.D. in Chemistry woman on about.com.

Anyone want to take the time to refute that? No? Good.
