On Monday, around 4 and a half thousand Portsmouth FC fans, including myself travelled up to Nottingham for our game against Notts County. Fans were hoping this would be the game that we needed to finally be promoted up to Division 1.

We were relying on another result in the game between Mansfield and Luton, which would need to see Luton either draw or lose and Pompey to win which would finally see them go up. The

The atmosphere was electric, Nottingham was taken over by our travelling support - and an attendance confirmed as 12,184 (and 4,366 of them being away supporters) it was set to be an interesting afternoon.

Portsmouth took the lead from a penalty early in the first half, with a result filtering through on everyones phones in the stand which was about to set the heart of every pompey fans heart racing. Luton went 1-0 down, and at that very moment, as the results stood, Pompey were in an automatic promotion spot. Half time arrived and the results in both games remained the same. It was a quick cigarette break for myself, and many others who stood out at the back of the stand we were placed with a bottle in one hand and the other in the air singing loud in delight. The second half of our game was what seemed like it would take a lifetime. We got back to our seats as the second half kicked off and it didn't take long for the nail biting to start when news of a Luton penalty and goal was whispered through the stands. The atmosphere turned down a notch, it became tense. Only for Notts County to equalise through an unusual attack and poor defending for the boys in blue. No substitutions had been made, and with around 30 minutes remaining, we brought on a player who it seemed the day would be written for. Conor Chaplin, born and bred Portsmouth replaced Gary Roberts and had an instant impact, but not enough to look fully dangerous. Jamal Lowe, a non-league player who we signed in the January transfer window came on for Carl Baker, and with only 13 minutes remaining. Scored the vital goal that would see us at that very moment in time promoted. We only had to clinch on to a win, and in the 3rd minute of stoppage time Jamal got his second that would surely see us up in League 1 the following season. Moments later, the full time result at Lutons game filtered through, which saw what was probably the loudest cheer of the afternoon. We had done it! From the FA Cup win in 2008, to the many years of pain and torment to follow, watching out club nearly disappear from existence.

At the full time whistle, I like many other fans was stood along the barrier that separated us from the stand and the byline along the pitch. The stewards and Nottingham Police Force had already tried to create a human shield to prevent anyone from getting onto the pitch at full time, but it was never going to be able to stop the army of over 4 and a half thousand fans ready to party and celebrate with their players and heroes. The referee blew his whistle and I jumped the barrier, turned a steward and ran straight up to Conor Chaplin, bundling my arms around him and many other fans who had already streamed onto the pitch. I helped hoist him up onto another fans shoulder, and walked him towards the end which saw the Pompey fans stationed for the game. People still flying onto the pitch, the chimes rang out.

What a day, what a memory.

We're Portsmouth City, We're on our way back.
