I guess I could see the benefits to knowing the language of the location you're wishing to live within, as it would be quite ignorant to go to a country expecting to just live in your own little bubble, excluding yourself from the social areas around you.

Won't happen, there's still a lot of accents and dialects.
One main language would be impossible.

I know this may be considered reviving a dead post, but I have been unable to access this website on my computer for some time.

What you are arguing is that because different social areas use specific 'lingo', nobody would be able to understand anybody? Is that the reason you downvoted my post?

You are aware that we still have different accents today, within the UK people in the north speak differently to those in the south right? But we can still understand each other because we speak English. Arguing the fact that this would be anything similar to having over 200 different languages is completely and utterly moronic.

I feel like if your going to move to a place with a different language you should look into learning the language but I don't think it should be mandatory to READ WRITE SPEAK the language?

Sorry but Americans and English are the worst for this.

I'm Spanish but live in England. When I was in Spain, it was disgusting how many English people lived over there but could speak a word of Spanish. Same applies to most countries that have British and American expats.

Just because a lot of people speak English, it doesn't mean you shouldn't try to learn the language and fit into a society. Especially English speaking people living in a Spanish speaking country, considering Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world after Chinese.

Absolutely. If you want to live there, learn the customs and practice them.

The south west coast might as well be Mexican and the North West coast might as well be Asian lol. There are a ton of Asians (or ornamentals, whatever you want to call them and yes I meant to spell it that way) in the Seattle area and all down the west coast really. The Mexicans that can't speak English are a dime a dozen down in Southern California.

The fact you even support Syrians entering our country any more is hilarious.
