That mechanic sounds like a really crappy guy and i would stop going there completely. How does a window, that is in his shop, breaking your fault.

In legal terms the mechanic is wrong and has to reimburse you for the windows.

However around your mothers car this is a typical thing that mechanics do. They will fix the thing in such a way that you have to come back and get it repaired again or change for a different part which would cost less. With your CD player you should have just took it out and put a new one in. Plenty of tutorials out there.
