Ive recently come in to some issues regarding my computer specs & don't have the slightest of ideas as to what to purchase to improve or upgrade my current setup as i'm getting frame lag & issues with everything in general. I didn't build the PC so I just need general advice.
I was told that the CPU would need upgrading & I don't know what to buy regarding the CPU
so my current specs are

CPU - AMD Athlon X4 740 Quad core
RAM - 8GB DDR3
Motherboard - ASRock FM2A85X Extreme4-M
GPU - Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti (MSI)

so my question is:
If I was to upgrade my CPU to match my other specs - best option?
Have all peripherals needed & have a budget of around £600/$750

Just build you a new PC for around $850.

In answer to your specific question, I'd say to just sell those parts and build a solid build for around $800. If you're willing to do that:

What's your budget and currency?
Do you have a monitor/keyboard/mouse ( I assume you do). If so what monitor do you have?

I'd say you overspent on the PSU, use the extra money to get something like a 6gb 1060.

I live in the UK & my budget is £500 on a current or change of my PC.

I have all peripherals, yes.

Monitor is: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Don't know if that helps or not in terms of specs but thanks for the replies in advance.

Alright, you're going to want to buy a new monitor because that's a pretty bad monitor. What are the rest of your specs? Download Speccy and post a screenshot. We also need to know the make and model of both your case, and PSU. I would hold on to that CPU for now, Zen is right around the corner and that should bring better options and prices, so your current CPU will do you until Zen releases.

What is "Zen"?

I was also suggested a build & feel as if it's completely viable for what i'm requesting.

Thought on that?

Again, as I said;

"We also need to know the make and model of both your case, and PSU."
and
"Alright, you're going to want to buy a new monitor because that's a pretty bad monitor."

Zen;

Even if you don't buy an AMD CPU, Zen release should cause price drops for Intel chips hopefully so it wouldn't make any sense for you to buy a new CPU right now. RX 480 would be a waste of money since you're using a shitty 1680x1050 resolution monitor. That EVGA PSU is trash.

Without knowing your specs, first step is to get a new monitor and graphics card. I'd say, like 13 said wait until February for Zen. Get a Zen CPU, then get a good monitor and graphics card. Any left over money could be used for a new case (depending on what case you have) and an SSD

iFallOffStuff wrote wait until February for Zen. Get a Zen CPU

Q1 2017. Could be March before Zen CPUs are available to buy. Could potentially even be an end of March paper release with chips being shipped out then, and sales starting in April. Or we could see Zen CPUs on shelves at the start of January. Regardless, we can't tell him yet to buy Zen, Zen CPUs could be terrible, but at the very least, they should bring price drops for older chips and Intel chips so OP could get an upgrade cheaper, hence why he should wait for Zen. Also, he has a CPU that he'll be able to use for 1-3 months so waiting for Zen isn't really an inconvenience.
