So many of you here are aware that i'm in the Military. Many of you are probably not aware I was injured while 4 months into my first tour. The point of this post is to raise suicide awareness for veterans that struggle with PTSD. So here it goes,

4 months into my deployment we had to pull security on this highway that connects to the next province. This highway is known for militia to transport weapons and traffic humans. So we were there to show our presence. While we are on a dismount patrol around our vehicle which was an MRAP(Mine resistant ambush protected) we were approached by 3 males who were taking photos of our and our convoy which was 3 vehicles. We were instructed to disperse the crowd and apprehend the 3 military aged males, meanwhile at that same time a white vehicle approached us from behind while we were focusing on the crowd in front. I noticed the vehicle and turned around and drew my rifle and as did the rest of our team and instructed the 2 males to exit the vehicle and keep their hands up. Both males exited the vehicles and one ran and we didn't engage. While we were putting the male occupant of the vehicle in zips(zipcuffs) the second male that ran returned and walked to the side of our vehicle and detonated a vest and threw me and 2 of my squad 10 feet against a tree while hitting us with shrapnel. I woke up in the medevac after blacking out. I was transferred Bagram Airfield where i was then transferred to Germany and then home. I required 2 surgeries and broke both my legs and my arm. No one in my unit was killed which i was most thankful for.

Now on to the recovery, I was able to go home after a few weeks but the struggle began. No matter how high i turned the AC on, i'd wake up from having dreams soaked in sweat and a puddle. I'd have to change my sheets 2 times a night at some points. Every time i would drive my fiance and i around, i'd see a cardboard box on the road or a bridge and i stopped in the middle of traffic and froze up cause i'd fear an ambush or an IED. PTSD is serious and it leads to 22 suicides a day for veterans. I was able to overcome it but i can't say the same for thousands of veterans who cannot.

For more information about veteran suicide and how it is rising as the years progress, please see this page [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

There are many ways for people to help. You can donate to so many charities that support veterans.

Homes for our Troops
Battle buddy foundation
Fisher house foundation
and many more.

Below you can see the official investigation photos from the incident
Please note that two of the images i blocked out some parts due to graphic nature of the remnants of the bomber..

Wow. I knew that alot of veterans experienced this but I didn't know that it was of this magnitude. 22 suicides is ALOT!

Which of the above charities would you recommend? I'm going to donate 25bucks

If you wish to donate, that's amazing. the best organization is Homes for Troops. They build houses from the ground up that are accommodated to their needs and abilities

A friend of mine who lost both of his legs was built a house by this group and its amazing.

Here is their Youtube page that shows what they do.

It's not worries, This post wasn't about seeking donations. It's about making people aware of the dire situation that gets overlooked by many.

Thank you again!
