I bought an Xbox 360 slim off a yard sale this past weekend and will not read any games! I am heart broken! I have done some research and some people say I need to change the optical drive? I alsolooked for service repairs with Microsoft and the only option is to get a replacement Xbox for $79. Is it worth for me to repair it? Should I sell it for parts or what? I paid $30 for the console with 4 games and a controller. I know I can recover my money but the question is what is the best alternative?

I dissasembled the Xbox and removed the hard drive to clean the laser and nothing changed. I assume I have to replace the hard drive. I hear there are people who get hard drives and are not really compatible. How do I know what to get?

Hi,
You might be able to get it to read by adusting the laser strength on it. Look it up on YouTube. I 've done this many times to older DVD drives and it gives them another 6 months to 1 year of life. Eventually you have to replace the DVD, but I'm not sure if MS is even offering this service any longer since they discontinued the console.
