Breakdown:
CPU: An i7 for less.
CPU Cooler: Recommended.
Motherboard: Chosen myself, I love black and red.
Ram: I mean, cheap and red. What else could one ask for.
Storage: I already own a 1TB SSHD and an SSD.
GPU: Needed something awesome. Need your guys opinion, do you think I could get the 1070 with 7.5GB of GDDR5X for $315 or should I just buy the 970?
Case: I mean, full of features, modular, has case windows. Throw me a downside!
Case fans: Silent, can be used on radiators and cases. Good airflow.
Keyboard/Mouse: I have the original CM Storm Devastator, and I'm satisfied because I use a gamepad and the refresh of it could only get better.

Ridiculous. AM3+ in a $900+ rig is laughable, top kek. Why go from i5/GTX 970 on your last thread to a significantly worse rig here?

This would be far superior;

Did you read what I said? I'll break this down:
I'm upgrading to a Zen CPU and a Vega GPU when they drop in this fall/ Spring 2017. I'm not going for the nicest of a CPU and GPU, I am going for a set theme to put the next parts. I like the idea of overclocking, nice motherboards, and just rather luxury items over bang/buck. It's the way I am. It isn't right for most, and that's not how I draw up builds for people. I'm, well different. I'm not ASUS Rampage No scope **** triple 1080 V motherboard, but I like the $100-$160 motherboards. Whatever I can find for the cheapest and which one I like the most. Usually. You're right, I should get an i5, but I feel like 4 cores is on its way out.

DO NOT REQUIRE STORAGE.

You do realise that Zen will require a new motherboard and RAM as Zen is AM4 socket along with DDR4 RAM? At least if you was on Skylake you would already have the RAM and would only need to upgrade CPU and Motherboard to Zen.

Like Sancty said AM3+ in $900 budget is laughable and IMO stupid.

Still bad. That doesn't mean you don't need storage, and is just a waste of money anyway IMO. You're paying $60 for 16GB RAM which means you can use 16GB for storage, or you could pay $60 for a nice 240GB SSD. Bit of a no brainer IMO, but whatever.

That's irrelevant. Zen is a while away yet, and you'll need a new motherboard, RAM, and CPU. Just because you're going to maybe upgrade to Zen doesn't mean you buy heavily out-dated hardware, like AM3+. As for Vega, we have to wait for Polaris 10 and 11 first, which should only have finished releasing by the end of this year, assuming it's not delayed which IMO, is unlikely since the 300 series and Fury series were delayed. HBM2 isn't going to start shipping until the start of 2017, so it's at least that long before we see Vega, and then some.

Regardless, you don't plan your build for future upgrades. If you're really determined to upgrade soon, buy a Skylake Pentium, and run the iGPU, spend the rest of your money on storage, RAM, case etc. If you like the idea of overclocking, buy an unlocked CPU. You can buy a nice motherboard if you want.

"You're right, I should get an i5, but I feel like 4 cores is on its way out. "
You don't know what you're talking about then. 4 cores is plenty. AAA titles that aren't well optimised, such as GTA V and what not, make use of hyperthreading, but that doesn't mean that "4 cores is on its way out". That just doesn't make sense. Also, if anything, DX12 is going to bring better support for lower end CPUs(or it's supposed to). Then again, could be a while before we see DX12 being implemented in to a lot of games. It's been about for a while and so far, we have two DX12 games(excluding AoS because that's a pathetic example).

On to that rig, no it's bad. $110 for H170 motherboard is meh, I wouldn't be paying that much, even if it's just for aesthetics. You can get a nicer motherboard for less money. I maybe wouldn't spend so much on the case. It's a good case, if you;re determined to buy it, but I;d look at an Enthoo Pro M, an Enthoo Pro, or something like that. Cheap kb/mouse bunduru is top kek, the mouse and keyboard I suggested are far better, and well worth the money. Like you said yourself, you want to get a nice rig now and upgrade to Zen/Vega, then get a mech keyboard and a nice mouse. Also, those fans are poop. Stop trying to buy LED fans. Just buy an NZXT Hue+, or some LED strips for lighting and buy actual good fans, like the Venturi's I suggested.

I'm no expert on fans, tbh. Alright, I'll make a new build and update when finished.
Guys, I have stated this before, and I'll do it again. I am okay with buying a new motherboard for Zen. I have decided to get the i5, but I'm getting 32GB ram for longevity and Dimmdrive. That leaves me about 24 GBs to run my stuff on (most, SC uses more than 8GB), which is awesome. It's also nice because the only thing I will have to upgrade is my motherboard/cpu. I was thinking I could grab the 400C instead of the Mastercase Pro 5, or maybe I could just grab the Mastercase (base edition).

RAM is much much faster than any SSD. Here is the new build. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

What are you even talking about.

"MORE RAM = BETTER"
Entirely incorrect. It's just a waste of money. You're not going to use more than 16GB realistically, other than for DimmDrive or whatever, but in that case, a 16GB storage drive is ridiculously low capacity. You're literally paying $60 for 16GB of storage, instead of 240GB but whatever. I didn't say that an SSD would be faster, simply that using RAM for storage is a nice way to waste money. It definitely doesn't make sense in a $1k rig.

That reddit link is irrelevant? No one cares. Literally no one said anything about AsRock so I've no idea why you're linking a thread about AsRock?

Also, that rig is still pretty bad. That RAM is actually really cheap at $90, so it's not terrible, but I still wouldn't use 16GB RAM for storage. The motherboard is over-priced. The cooler is not good. Save $20 and get a better air cooler. No need for thermal paste, the vast majority of coolers come with pre-applied paste.

I already have a 1TB SSHD... I'm getting the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. Motherboard is overpriced? Recommend me to a different one. I just thought Asrock was a little untrusted in the forum community, so I dropped it in. Why are you so hostile? What did I do to you?
