Skip to the bottom for a tl;dr.

Group assignments.

Oh, boy.

If you're like me and actually wanted to do somewhat well in school, you could probably relate to this - getting forced into groups with absolute slack offs.

They're lazy shits who slack off and leave all the work to you. Even if you make them contribute in the littlest way, they'd just plagiarize everything and put in literally no effort into whatever they were assigned to do. It's always the same outcome, the one who cares does all the work and in the end, the whole group shares that one mark. Personally, I wouldn't even bother going to them, telling them to do their part. At this point I just pretend that it's a solo assignment everytime and do it all myself.

Also, this is something else related to this that absolutely pisses me off.

Let's say you end up getting a 90%. Pretty good, right? They're going to praise you and say some bullshit like, "Oh, I'm so glad you were in our group! You're a savior!". They keep on saying shit like that, up until the point where you mess up. When you mess up and end up not getting a not-so-great mark but still better than what they'd get, they'd have so much hatred towards you as if you just massacred a village. Like bruh, you didn't even contribute to the group, stfu. You have no saying.

I'd rather do everything myself with 110% more stress and get a final mark of +90% than to split the parts with slackers and get a 40%.

I don't know where this rant is going anymore so I'm just going to cut it off here.

tl;dr

group assignments are shit.

Damn. When I was in school that was me, well kinda not really. I was more of a quiet dude unless it was something I actually wanted to do like history. I enjoyed presenting as well but not really being part of the assignment unless it was I who made it. But I see what you are saying, cant say we had a lot of those guys in my classes.

I used to get people like that all the time. I'd go straight to the teacher and tell them I won't participate in the group or it would end up in a fight. Legally, they have to split me away from them to avoid such a thing. 'Suck it up' is an illegal answer. One teacher told me that and I went to the principal and she got in trouble, as it can bring up lawsuits if the teacher was forewarned that if they forced us together..

Either way. I, like you, enjoy doing my projects solo. Easier, less stress and I can be happy with the mistakes made because they were mine at least. I don't have anyone to blame but myself.

I was working on a GCSE with a group.
Didn't work at all...
I got into a fight
Someone got set on fire...
2 people did the work (me and someone else)
the 3rd person who did work left
half of the group skipped or did something wrong before so they were with the head teachers...

I know what its like to get **** over....

Honestly, working with people is part of life. If you have group mates that aren't pulling their weight, kick their lazy ass from the group and leave their name off the paper. Just let your professor know that he/she wasn't helping and doesn't deserve their share of the grade.

Easy solution and I have done it many times throughout college and high school.

No one gets a free ride.

I was the quiet person in the class not the one and only quiet person in the class but if I knew the question I was say. The groups I was in were the dumb ones and didn't understand what it meant even tho the teach went threw the whole subject. After that I asked the teacher to change groups becuase for me I felt like I didn't succeed in what I've done.

I loved group assignments even though I was the smart kid who got paired with the idiots who didn't do much. I'll let you in on my secret as to how I got them to do the brunt of the work and get a good grade.

First, assess the people in the group and what they are "capable" of. Then split the project up so it's easier, everyone has a piece of the work load. This is where the kids decide it's too much work because they can't read 3 chapters in a week so they talk with their buddies. Every day give them a few pages to read and take notes on, then give you the notes at the end of the day. For example, if the group needs to read 10 chapters and there are 4 of you, and you have one week to do it, most groups are all going to read all 10 chapters. Some might get smart and split it up 2-2-3-3. This is where you take it one extra step and tell the kids "today you just need to read page 48-52 and give me notes". This way they don't see they need 2 or 3 chapters, but rather a couple pages and they give you the notes.

I almost never read or did research, I would just combine all the notes and fact check everything and make a few notes into a complete essay. I probably only put 2 days into a week group project. This way I am the slacker while the slackers do the work lol.

TL;DR Yeah. I hated group assignments in school. Like get over yourself. Maybe some people just want to work ALONE.
