I don't want to sound self absorbed, but I was reading about a man who had a theory that every time he walked out of a room for example the people would disappear and reappear whenever he would exit/enter a room. This theory got me thinking really hard as the way we can confirm that there are other people out there is through our trust. It got me Mind **** as hell and wanted your opinions on it.
As long as your real!

Sounds kinda dodgy the way he is talking about it,

Of course you are not the only person on Earth.

This really isn't stupid or dumb.
This theory has far reaching consequences in philosophy, logic, maths, and physics.
I think that OP just dumbed it down right to its core.

The theory states that something must be processed by an observer's brain in order to actually exist in any meaningful sense.
It's the 'If a tree falls in the woods...' question. Thankfully we have words which can solve that question, if a tree falls in the woods it does make the waves which, if heard by a human, would be considered a 'sound.' But because they aren't heard, it isn't a sound.

In this same vein of thought, if a person cannot see the tree does it really exist? The answer might seem obvious, 'Existence isn't predicated on an observer, something must physically exist whether it's being observed or not.'

However, an experiment called the 'Double Slit' experiment has cast a lot of doubt on the statement that human observation does not change what is happening in the physical world.
In the experiment, they fire a laser light at two slits with a board behind it, the light pattern on the board varies depending on which slit the light travels through. The pattern remains constant when humans observe the experiment, but when the humans avert their eyes and detectors are put in place by the slits, the light travels and the pattern appears differently.
This proves that the world, particles, and atoms are all affected by what is happening on the quantum level more than they are affected by us.
The very fact that human observation makes particles behave differently is evidence for this theory.

This has been dubbed the 'observer effect' in physics and is now its own branch of study.

Easy, if this was true, how can you text someone or call them. Problem solved.
