I've only used Hotspot on my iPhone, all I did was turn it on , and put a wifi password on it, and connected to it on my xbox. ;

Things you need:

An Ethernet cord
A Windows based PC

  • Get an Ethernet cord and plug one end into your laptop and the other end into your Xbox's Ethernet port.
  • Go to the "Network and Sharing" center on your PC and click on your SSID (essentially the name of your Wifi / Network)
  • Click "Properties" (this will require administrative access)
  • Click on the "Sharing" tab
  • Check off "Allow other network users to connect through this computers Internet connection"

This should bridge a connection from your laptop to your Xbox.

The only downside to this is that you'll need to keep your laptop close to your Xbox at all times, unless you have a 50 foot Ethernet cable lying around. You'll also need to make sure your laptop has power and is awake every time you use your Xbox, or you won't have any connection.

*Alternatively, you can try manually setting up your Xbox's network connection by telling it which IP to connect to on your LAN. I'm not sure the issue you're having with connecting, but this should work if you're having troubles connecting through wifi. Hard-wiring is your last option, but is the most effective way to connect to your network. You'll have to run some cabling to your router, but this will bypass the laptop method and you'll receive optimum performance this way.
