I'm not very good with computers and don't no a lot. Just a quick question. If i make a Windows 7 bootable USB, would it reset my computer? (Because i've been trying to reset my Toshiba Satellite 1GQ to factory settings, and it does not work. When i hold the zero key and power it on, it makes a long loud bleep but then starts windows normally).

What you want to do will give you a complete fresh install of Windows 7. Your laptop will be completely clean of any documents, user accounts etc.

If you have made the bootable USB successfully then you need to boot from the USB instead of your laptops hard drive. You can do this by accessing the BOOT MENU or BIOS by pressing the corresponding button to the option when you first boot up your laptop. (the BOOT MENU is easier to get this started! but it doesn't matter if you don't get that option as you will always have the BIOS option)

You can find the correct key to press in your user manual, but it will also appear on your screen very quickly when you turn on the device so look fast! (you may need to restart to be able to see the options or to press the key if you're too slow)

Once you're in either the BOOT MENU or BIOS you need to select the USB drive to boot from. Once you have done that, your laptop will boot from the files on the USB and begin the installation process. Note that if your laptop is considerably older then it may not have the boot from USB feature.

Just remember that doing this will overwrite any existing files on your laptop so be sure to backup everything that needs to be! If you get stuck on any of the steps then let me know and I'll try my best to help out (try including some photos so we can see your options. Just remember to backup any files you need even before doing this, even though the above steps should not affect anything as you would not have started the new installation if you got stuck.

Not always true, select "custom" installation, and when you select the partition to install on, if that partition, such as C:\, already has a Windows OS on it, it will rename the old os to "Windows.old" and you can do a full installation, without backing it up, because of this, and then you can just grab your files back and erase the Windows.old file
