Hey guys, My first day of Highschool football practice is coming up and was wondering if you have any tips for me to be better at the sport and such. I'll probably be some type of lineman, since i'm pretty big. If that gives you an idea of tips to give. Thanks.

Edit: "Pretty Big" as in 14yrs old ( turned a few months back) I'm 6ft and 190 - 200 pounds. I was bigger than most kids, except a guy that was 6'2ft and 270 pounds who's gonna be playing also. But I'd consider myself pretty big.

Defensive or Offensive?

Edit: Offensive, you better train hard because if you **** up you'll hear about it since you're literally the frontline. Defensive, work with your teammates closely. Get tips and learn how to do some of the more veteran moves to get past the guard, center or tackle.

I'm a big guy too (6'7 300+ at the time) and I flourished as a DE, I'm not a slow guy so my strength and unusual size for a high schooler messed up OLineman so I did well. Just study very very hard for tips and certain skills at your position.

If you're offensive line, you should work on technique. Your fundamentals could separate you from others, even if the others are stronger than you. There are many linemen that have the size but get blown off the line because they do not know what they are doing.

Communication is also a big part of playing the line. If your coach knows what he is doing, he is probably making the line, especially the center, to call out the linebackers and stunts if he see's them.

The best way to crack the starting lineup in the future is to just see how the upperclassmen are and try to emulate them. Each and every coach is different. Some play you based on talent, some play you based on commitment, some play you based on improvement. If you see the senior linemen play because they are committed, then you should go to every single practice, camp, and work out to show the coach that you are serious. If you do that, you will get on his radar and start when you're called up to varsity.
