turned my Xbox on the other day and found out my gamer tag changed to a randomized Xbox gamer tag... Can anyone explain ?

It might of been seen as being offensive. Xbox do not give out free name changes anymore for your own wrong doing so this might be the reason why your name has changed.

Either your gamer tag was inappropriate and Microsoft changed it. Or, the people that you were playing with reported it, and that it was caused it to be changed.
