So I've been wanting to buy a truck and a dirt bike for the longest time now but I can't decide on some things. First of all I don't know if I want a dual sport or a motocross bike. I've ridden my friends kx450f which is a mx bike and I've fallen in love with it. With that in mind his dad is selling his 2000 Chevy s10 for $1000. I'm going to buy the truck but I can't decide between a dual sport or his mx bike. The only street legal bikes I would want is a 2015 WR250R or a 2015 WR450F (which doesn't come street legal). Any help?

I personally have never been a fan of quarter ton trucks. The S10 only has a payload of just under 1100 lbs, and can tow 5200 lbs. If you don't want to tow, and just put the bike in the bed of your truck, the kx450f weighs about 250 lbs (that's what I'm seeing online). If it where me driving, I'm another 250 lbs, so now I can only haul another 600 lbs which is nothing after food / water, gas, tools, etc.

None of these bike look like they are street legal. Even if they where I wouldn't take them on the street. You may be a good driver, but that don't mean grandpa is. My uncle had a new bike he was riding around on to save gas and in the city he was going about 30 and someone just pulled out in front of him. He totaled the bike and was out of work for the better part of a year in and out of hospitals, in the wheel chair, etc.

I only want the truck to carry the bike to trails or a track. Also I live out in the sticks so there's literally a car or two every 5 minutes. So I'm not worried about ripping an mx bike down the roads and getting hit by a car because cars aren't a problem. I just can't make up my mind weather or not I want a street legal bike or a non street legal bike. It seems pointless to be paying insurance on two vehicles when I can have both and only pay for the truck.

You can just road legalize a KX450.. or buy one pre registered.

+ get a MX bike they are very fun and you can just throw them about without breaking unlike a dual sport.

I understand that. But how much money am I gonna have to throw at it to get it street legal? I don't want a supermoto. I'm interested in dual sports. I'm guessing I'd need to put at least another grand in to the bike to be able to legally ride on the road. So is it really worth it?

Well not completely sure how to do it but you could just buy a wire loom from another bike link it up to a battery. Then you can also take the old indicators, the KX450 will have a pre-made headlight and brakelight.

I would suggest getting a Honda XR650R, it is a beast of a bike. Road legal and ready for the track.

Why don't you just buy the truck then save up for a dirtbike. Ride's are always better than a dirtbike first

Because I don't know if I want to be able o ride legally on the street or be stuck to riding on the dirt. Anyways I plan on buying the truck first since it's only $1000 and the bike is $3000.

You need to make sure to have a plan B if you're going for the truck first...
