You could possibly have malware, which is super easy to fix. Download this program off of c-net and select the free trial. I know this is safe to use and works 100% of the time. Your normal virus software such as mccafe of avast won't work as they do not really scan for malware. Run the full scan which will probably take 15 minutes maybe longer. See if there is any malware on your pc.

I appreciate the help but I deleted and re-installed Google Chrome again and I'm now able to... even though VaudiX is still in my extensions! Should I still download that? It's clearly something bad

It's an adware extension so you should install malwarebytes and scan your system. That should fix the problems you are encountering.

go onto your control panel and go to uninstall a program and uninstall anything that looks shady and that you dont remember downloading.

I done it and i got rid of a coupe of shady extentions
