Also, I would rather have two 970's over one 980, it just isn't 200 quid better...
I'd go with two R9 290's They are 30$ cheaper on amazon, and have about a 3-5 FPS difference from the research I've done.

ya ik the cpu cooler should not be in there but if op wanted he could take it out or leave its still better than the stock and i dont suggest sli configs because i personally have had multiple issues in the past wth sli
