Firstly, I know this subject may have already came up in this section, but I would like to expand on it. I just find the rep system to be over/underused. I know rep is just a "meaningless number on a website", but I believe it's more than that. It's a source of trust/validity in most cases. The truth is, not everyone will take a person with 5 rep seriously. On the other hand, someone with 200 rep is "popular" on the forum.

Rep is generally not used enough in some cases. A beginner user can help a vast group of people and yet, only few will give him/her rep. In my case, I sometimes help many people and I hardly receive rep. I'm not complaining solely on my behalf, but on everyone's at TTG. I have somewhat enough rep already, but I don't think rep is given out where it is deserved. Personally, I hand out rep whenever I feel like I have been helped positively.

Rep is also sometimes used too much. Lots of times, rep is given out when it's not needed. Say a "popular" user helps another user on TTG, they will send him/her tons of rep for such a small task. Now before anyone calls me a hater, I'm not hating on any popular user. Many of them deserve rep with the amount of time and effort they put into this site and helping the community. I just want to make known that lots if time, rep is given out for no reason at all.

Thanks for listening. Once again, I'm not hating or discriminating against anyone. I just think the rep system is faulty.

yeah I do agree, I also feel the same way about the upvote and down vote system. No one uses it and it seems like only people downvote. I know its just a number on a site, but its posted on peoples profiles, and a user with 200 downvotes and only 50 upvotes is more than likely not a useful user. You know what I mean? Instead of just commenting the same thing over and over again, why not just upvote..?

I add rep to people who actually deserve it, along with thanking topics that actually deserve a thank.

Rep should be a system of +1, +2, +3 depending on the members ranking, and there should be negative rep etc. But that's just my two cents.

Yeah you are correct, I hope they do not bring it back. It was way overused. People would -Rep just because they had a different opinion.
If this post was back in v2 the OP would have most likely received some -Rep already just for arising this topic

Not popular, just more trusted in my eyes. Because there are a lot of members on this site with more than 200 rep that i dont know of, or dont know me. Most likely dont know me because I only talk to like 2 people on this site.

With you saying sometimes you do something helpful but dont get the rep you want/deserve thats just the person, you dont need that number to help users, yes they will trust you more, but by you getting more noticeable with your services thats all you need.
