Title says it all really.

Does anyone know any ways of getting your insurance reduced? Obviously black box etc. but are there other ways? To insure a corsa or clio for myself it is around 1400 or 150 monthly.

Cheers

Firstly there is two versions of the black box, one that simply monitors how you drive and the other does the same but also has speed regulations and curfews such as no driving between 11pm and 5am (the second option saves more money but its stupid and unless it suits you its a bad option)

other than the black box the only other ways to save money is by either researching and choosing the cheapest first car you can get to run
- Taking advanced driving lessons before you get your own car (saves a small amount of money but depends how much you have to pay for the lessons)
- You can haggle, so basically get on the comparison websites and find the cheapest then ring someone else up and tell them that someone else is cheaper and sometimes they cut you a special deal, also make sure to explain to insurers what you will be using the car for, how often, when and where (that can also help)
- Going on your Mum/Dads/whoever's insurance and sharing the car with them

Also don't forget after a year of driving a car providing you haven't been in trouble with the police, any car involved incidents and you haven't claimed any money of your insurance it generally goes down by a few hundred

You just have to take your time and shop around basically, it's quite easy to get insured for under 1000 nowadays even if your are 17/18 years old, just look at every option and every deal and be honest when talking to the insurers as they do wrongfully judge you and can think he's obviously going to be one of those "boy racers" driving around with his big exhaust and booming speakers at midnight when actually you might be the complete opposite ;)

Also never do monthly unless you have money to throw away, it's a complete rip off

I've done a few quotes on clio's and corsa's and all of them have come up to 1300 - 1500 for the cheapest. (I am 17). I know the blackbox is a good idea but you do get penalised in some cases for no reason. Is the advanced driving lesson the past plus in the UK?
And yeah, I'm not going to be a boy racer haha!
I don't have the money for yearly

I'd say pass plus etc is worth it, you will learn loads on the course and it will help with insurance.
1300 aint bad dude, my 1L Classic Mini costs 1500 a year

Well, you could lie but obviously not suggested. Where the car is park can change price drastically. Also, clios and corsas are pretty common, the insurance costs for them has sky rocketed in recent years due to everyone getting them. No idea why but that's what happened. Something like a VW Lupo or Polo is going to be cheaper to insure, or at least it was for me when I last checked.

150 isn't a lot lololol. I'd cry if my insurance came out to this price

your insurance isnt that bad then im 19 have been riding motorbikes for nearly 3 years on the road and my car insurance at the cheapest is 1800 with a box after going on every comparison site. your judged on your postcode generally so if any family members live in a better area see if you can get insured from their address

I'm 19 and I pay 600 pounds a year for a brand new 2 litre VW Golf GTD. When I first started driving, I paid 1600 pounds for a 1.4 VW Polo with a black box. Black box is reasonable for reducing insurance premiums, but if you accelerate slightly faster than it wants you too, it gives you a bad "score" - it's BS really.

Now with 2 years no claims, and I'm in a "reasonably safe" part of the UK - I say that only because insurance prices really can depend a lot on where you are in the country, whether there's a lot of car thefts, etc in your area.
