The TV I have now is a 32" 720p HDTV. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

I'm buying a new 50" LED Smart HDTV tomorrow for $478. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

So just some questions before I really make the decision, what's the difference between LED and LCD, are smart tv's really good, what is "5 million to 1 ultra-high contrast", and what does 120Hz do for a tv (is it good)?

If you can answer any of these questions and tell me if this is a wise investment or help me find a reasonably priced new tv I will +rep.

Well technically speaking an LED is basically LCD except instead of using fluorescent lamps it uses LED's. It still uses an LCD screen.

Smart TV's are great and much better than a normal bog standard one. I don't use mine for surfing the internet or anything but you can use apps on it and watch Netflix and other things that are integrated on it. My favourite feature is being able to plug my hard drives into the TV and being able to watch all my media on my TV instead of passing my laptop through HDMI.

The "5 million to 1 ultra-high contrast" is your dynamic contrast ratio which is basically the ratio between the brightest and darkest image your tv can make.

The 120hz is your refresh rate, it's fine.

I don't know too much of Vizio as I haven't bought any of their products, but with the sales on right now you could find a similar Tv with a more known brand for the same price or less.
