*PLEASE NOTE*

* I am not 100% straight due to a very alcoholic Christmas dinner so I may not make total sense to some people.

** I am not ranting about Lizard Squad/Finest Squad or any other hacking group that may or not be involved. Instead I am directing my frustration towards Microsoft and Sony.

Why?

Well for a start both Microsoft and Sony are corporate giants that have tens of thousands of tech professionals at their disposal, not to mention several billions of dollars worth of profits to re-invest into the company(s).

Apparently Lizard Squad issued a warning about a week ago that both Xbox Live and Playstation Network would be hit offline.

It seems (not saying it's fact) that Microsoft and Sony did not act and either though it was a bluff or did not deal with it adequately enough.

At the end of the day these hacking groups are amateurs when compared to MS/Sony and the fact that they managed to hit both consoles offline for 5 going on 6 hours is a massive failure on MS/Sony(s) part as it seems no backup plan was devised.

I feel sorry for all the little kids who got this for Christmas, some of the parents who are not aware of the hacking will be thinking the new console they bought is broken or faulty.

Rant over

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I prefer Microsoft over Sony. Sony just seem a bit lazy with things and the customer support (for me) has been terrible for the past year since I switched from 360 to PS3. That's why I got an Xbox one today and I'm selling my Playstation.

Yeah I've just noticed one or two people from the same region as me are online with no problems. Seems to be affecting the majority of people though, was not too fussed about it earlier but it's now 10:30pm and I want to wind down and chill out after a busy day. I'm getting more annoyed the later it gets I suppose.

You guys don't understand what they are doing... You can't prevent a DDoS. DDoSing is simply sending tons of meaningless information to the servers which causes it to overload. Think of it like this.. Say you have a small server that holds only 10 people. There are 6 on it right now. Now a hacker wants to take you down. They send tons of information to the server which then shuts it down. It would be like having 50 people on a server that only supports 10 people.

As stated before, you can't really stop a DDoS attack...

Well for one, you can't stop a DDoS. No one can stop it happening ( unless you run a VPN but Xbox/Sony can't. )

And for two, it's not like they're using free booters/stressers with 1mgb attacks. They're using I believe like 60k botnets on multiple clients.

If you're gonna complain, let someone do that to you and let us all know how you managed to stop it from happening/protected yourself then let Xbox/Sony know.
