There's a reason that you can make your profile private. If you do not want perverts looking at your profile make it so you have to approve followers. If an adult female wants to show off her body that is her prerogative and none of anybodies business. Don't look if it bothers you that much. Also, how is it a scheme to make money? Instagram is free, the editing is free, there is no ads. Users may use it to promote themselves which results in money. But instagram itself is not a scheme to make money, its a picture sharing app.
On to your question: Downfalls of instagram are the same with any social media or technology. One can become somewhat addicted to posting, liking, commenting, and following celebrities, friends, or strangers that they can lose focus on the things that actually matter. For instance, if you ask the average 14-18 year old female where Justin Beiber was last week, I bet they could tell you. Ask them where India is on a map, probably couldn't tell you. (not the best example but you get my drift). Social Media is taking us so far from where we need to be it is absolutely astonishing. The president has a twitter? REALLY? Focus on what your supposed to be focusing on. Anyhow, another downfall i can see with instagram is the fact that unsuspecting or ill taught minors can tag their locations in pictures. Self-explanatory there. Hashtags used incorrectly or innocently can attract the wrong crowd as well. There is a simple way to solve all of these problems though, and that is by making your profile private and only accept people you actually know or have gotten to know.

Instagram is just another social network that changes the game up by using selfies and what not instead of status updates or Tweets. Instagram is great. My woman and I both use it, and it nice to see her pretty face on there quite often.
