I have argued this point with several people, yet even when I present the facts they still disagree. I want to see what other people think, after I present these facts.
Let me give you the facts
Liga BBVA 2013/14 season (top 3 scorers)

1. Cristiano Ronaldo Goals - 31
2. Lionel Messi Goals - 28
3. Diego Costa Goals - 27

1. Cristiano Ronaldo Goals - 16 (CR7 is going to wipe the floor with Messi this season)
2. Neymar Goals - 9
3. Lionel Messi Goals - 7 (not even 2nd lol)
Now considering that Cristiano Ronaldo IS NOT even a striker, yet he scores more goals than the so called "best striker in the world" consistently, I really fail to understand why all the Messi fanboys are so adamant that he is so much better than CR7.
Think about it, if Cristiano Ronaldo WAS a striker instead of being a LM/LW it is INEVITABLE that he would have more attacking opportunities resulting in even more goals.

Messi does however have more assists consistently, personally I reckon Messi would be a better midfielder than Ronaldo and Ronaldo would be a better striker than Messi.
Overall I admire both Ronaldo and Messi, they are both world class players. I just feel that Ronaldo is a better player than Messi. Ask yourself this: what stiker (other than lionel messi) would score less goals than a midfielder and still be classed as a more superior player? Cant think of any.

This is always an ongoing debate which will sadly never get settled, Ronaldo & Messi are both unbelieveable players who have strengths in different various ways
Messi was out for 2 months with a Hamstring injury last season so thats probably why ronaldo scored more
However this year ronaldo has just blown everyone around him away.

Good reply, I agree they are both gods of football but I still believe they would both play better than the other if they swapped positions, Messi is left footed so obviously cant play as an attacking LM/LW but as a RM/RW I reckon he would be better than CR7 LM/LW and of course CR7 would make a better ST. It only makes sense if Ronaldo has so much more goals and Messi has so much more assists.

Your argument isn't hugely strong. You reference Ronaldo not being a striker to emphasise his goal landmarks but Messi isn't a striker either, he's a false 9
Messi has dominated Ronaldo in recent years for goals. Injuries/Barcelona's declined form/Messi's declined form is the only reason Ronaldo is ahead at the moment. Ronaldo fans can't ignore goal stats every year except the year in which it works to advance their argument.
Don't get me wrong, I prefer Ronaldo over Messi but:

-the 'best' player is a subjective award - people will have different criteria people need to meet to be the best (many ignore goalkeepers and defenders, perhaps unfairly)
The debate is one that will never end and quite honestly, does it truly matter who is 'better'? Most footballing eras experience one landmark player. We've been blessed with two, we're the lucky ones

Doesn't really matter honestly. The way they play is so different. There is no better player, just the fans arguing their player is better. I prefer Ronaldo, but that does not make him a better player. They are both world class and fun to watch

Ronaldo is incredible form no doubt and is a unplayable when he turns up.
Messi is just naturally better he is just magic on the ball and is better than Ronaldo.
Saying that they are both out of this world so watch them and enjoy them players like that are once in a lifetime.

We are lucky to have 2 insanely gifted players like these 2 in our generation tbh.
There's something about Messi when he is on the ball he is like a magician he has a gift that no one else has and can do things that no other player has the ability to do, but Ronaldo is just a machine he has everything a very all round player with immense finishing. Two greatly talented players. Equally as good as each other in there own way.

IMO i dont think there is a best player overall. For example Messi isn't the best defender and he cant goal keep
I think best player in there position like Messi is the best Centre forward and Ronaldo is the best Winger Just like Neuer is the best GK in the world.
I think Ronaldo is on better form at moment though.
I hope you understood that.
