A whole lot of my friends do, i never have but i find it intriguing, people really like them, and they are all obviously animated, not easy to do.

I can sum this up in one word "Everything".

Personally I watch it for the plot.

But dark, violent anime is always nice too.

The problem with many people's judgement on anime is that it is based on false pretenses in which I mean someone told you or you saw what you thought was the normal for all other anime, in which case it gave you a bad view point on it.

I don't know a single person who doesn't/can't get into at least one anime. The only people I know who honestly don't like anime are the really stupid ones who hate anything new & or those people who just didn't grow up with any TV at all!

There are many types of anime and before getting into them you should know this. There are way more type of anime but these are generally the most know for good or bad reason in the western culture.

Normal: Average anime Death Note, Code Geass, Steins;Gate, Etc...many anime fall under multiple genres.

Shonen: Action packed generally falls short of actual human capabilities. (DBZ, Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail...etc.

Echii: Soft porn of anime, generally the show is about a guy all over some girls tits. It often times shows the females tits, but rarely does it ever go anywhere rather than just a tease. (Huge reason why many people think all anime is porn lol.) Only Example of the top of my head, Kiss x Sis

Harem: Step down from echii it can still show the occasional tits but is more often then not has some sort of story. These are hit or miss for me, decent one Highschool DxD.

The three anime I tell everyone to choose from: Choose based on your personality and interest. Always watch in Japanese, most english voice actors suck and ruin the emotion/story.
