I have been trying to get the beer hat since the release of the Independence day map pack and everytime i do find a lobby with the special crate i tend to spawn on the other side of the map and can never get it as someone else always gets it.
Does anyone have any tips to get it in the lobby that I join so it tells me when it spawns or any other methods of getting it

Just keep server hoping. Eventually you will spawn near one. it took me 3 days, but i finally got one. And after i got one, they started to spawn like crazy.

Can't you just start up an invite only session and get one?

It can be invite only or public as long as it has 4 or more players in the lobby
