If it were me and I was building it from scratch, i'd go for an i3 and spend the saved money on more RAM and more storage. Regardless of whether you get an i3 or i5 you'll need to find more money for a graphics card.

How can you recommened a computer with an i3 if it's main use is for gaming? Hyperthreaded games are already becomming more widely seen.

Well that's hillarious. Sell your i5 because it won't help you over an i3 over the next few months/year+, but you'll seriously need more than 500gb on your hdd!

I was going at it from the point of him buying all the parts, but yes if he already owns the i5 then keep it. The i3 was to make it more balanced than just getting a i5 and no GPU.

If you're getting a new PC for gaming, there is 0 reason not to spend the small amount of extra (40~) on an i5, even if it means you have to wait an extra week or two to get the money for the same GPU you wanted.
