This method still works guys, you need to wait about 24Hr, I did it and I confirm it works.

Just tried it. Would the most recent XBL update have anything to do with it though, such as patching it?

I think the only way u can actually change ur gamertag is getting one free change when u first create ur account or paying $10 xbox money

It would be cool if it still worked,. But you probably would get banned for it.
